~FULLY DESIGNED AND HANDCRAFTED IN NORTH AMERICA~
This lovely harp has been designed by Jerry Brown and the staff of Music Makers in Minnesota. He has been designing, building, and selling harps for 26 years and has an excellent reputation. Jerry's harps are very popular and known for their impressive quality, durability, consistancy in string spacing, and beautiful sound quality. We are extremely impressed with the design and stability of Jerry's harps. We have many happy customers playing these harps; some are being used in Therapy programs, teaching beginners, and Professional players are using them for traveling and recording.
COMES COMPLETE WITH DETAILED INSTRUCTIONS: BELOW IS A QUICK OVERVIEW OF WHAT IS INVOLVED IN BUILDING THIS INSTRUMENT.
CONSTRUCTION DIFFICULTY RATING: 2
(ON A SCALE OF 1 TO 5 WITH 1 BEING EASY AND 5 BEING A CHALLENGING CHARACTER BUILDING EXPERIENCE)
This Shepherd Lap Harp project is simple to assemble using normal household tools and 20-30 hours' time. Use an electric hand drill for drilling string holes in the soundboard and for installing screws. You'll need two c-clamps and some weights for certain gluing steps. Most of the time is spent assembling the body.
The neck is pre-drilled for the threaded tuning pins. The back panel of the harp needs to have holes cut out for access to the strings inside the body. Use a coping saw or jig saw to cut these holes. These holes can be pre-cut for an extra $25.00. Many people enjoy customizing their harp by cutting their own holes in special shapes.
Sand and finish entire instrument. You may use Tung oil, lacquer, or other favorite finish of your choice. Install the hardware and pins, attach the nylon strings by tying a knot in one end and wrapping the other end around the tuning pin (tuning wrench included). Instructions for stringing and tuning are provided as well. Many people like to customize their harp by adding Carved Sides Inlays, and/or Rosettes.
